Congressman Bob Latta and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright engaged in a discussion about American energy policy during an Energy Subcommittee hearing. The focus was on increasing domestic energy production to ensure U.S. energy dominance.

Latta, who chairs the Energy Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, highlighted the importance of addressing domestic energy needs. He questioned Wright about the necessity of producing more energy in the country.

“Do we need to have more energy or less energy produced in this country?” Latta asked. Wright responded, “Unquestionably more energy.”

Latta expressed concerns about a growing gap between domestic manufacturing demands and reliable energy supply. He noted that many base load generation facilities are retiring prematurely, posing a potential threat to meeting future energy needs.

Wright pointed out the lack of growth in American electricity production during the previous administration’s four years, despite rising electricity prices by an average of 25%. He emphasized that failing to increase electricity production could jeopardize America’s position in technological advancements such as AI.

“If we can’t grow our electricity production and keep prices in check, America’s in trouble,” Wright stated. He added that the current administration is focused on facilitating private capital investment and reducing government barriers to expand reliable electricity supply.

The conversation underscored the shared commitment to enhancing U.S. energy capabilities and addressing challenges within the sector.
