On Wednesday, Feb. 25, Carter McCray, a former Elyria Catholic High School basketball standout, appeared for the West Virginia Mountaineers in their 74-62 victory over the UCF Knights.
The 6-foot-1 junior forward posted 12 points and collected seven rebounds while playing 25 minutes.
McCray and the Mountaineers are set to play Cincinnati Bearcats at home on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, Oberlin College in Ohio allocated $251,138 to men’s basketball teams in 2024, which is $1,248,185 below the state average of $1,499,323.
Women’s basketball teams from Lorain County received $174,108 during the 2024 season, down 13.7% from the previous year.
Oberlin College in Ohio spent $503,940 on football teams in 2024, a 3.4% decrease from the previous year, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
