The Ohio Controlling Board has approved the allocation of $74,779.20 for improvements at the Lorain County Detention Center. This funding, as announced by Speaker Pro Tempore Gayle Manning, will be used by the Ohio Department of Youth Services to update security equipment in the control room.

“These updates will make the staff feel safer coming to work every day, while simultaneously improving the safety of the residents and overall facility operations,” said Manning.

Additionally, Manning highlighted a significant investment in workforce-based training and equipment across Ohio. The board approved $8 million for this initiative, with $179,131.15 specifically allocated to Lorain County Community College. This investment aims to provide students with necessary skills to meet current and future demands in high-demand industries.

“Our students are the future of our state, and we have a responsibility to best prepare them to be successful in the workforce,” said Manning. “There is no doubt this funding will elevate the learning experiences and training of our future workforce.”

The Ohio Controlling Board is responsible for overseeing requests related to budgetary authority changes for state agencies.
