State Representative Gayle Manning announced on May 15 that the City of Lorain will receive nearly $1 million through the Brownfield Remediation Program grant.
The funding aims to help communities address abandoned or underused industrial, commercial, and institutional sites affected by hazardous substances or petroleum. This initiative is intended to promote redevelopment and job creation in areas impacted by environmental contamination.
Manning said, “This funding is much needed in the community. Because of initiatives like the Brownfield Remediation Program, the City of Lorain has more opportunities to expand, create jobs, and be a better place to live, work, and raise a family.”
The City of Lorain is set to receive $999,760 for installing a sewer pumping system at an industrial site. Officials say this infrastructure upgrade is essential for preparing the location for potential mixed-use redevelopment that could bring up to 200 full-time jobs.
In recent state budget decisions, Ohio House Republicans increased funding for the Brownfield Remediation Program to $100 million per fiscal year. State Rep. Gayle L. Manning represents communities in Lorain County as Speaker Pro Tempore in the Ohio House of Representatives and draws on her background as an elementary school educator and prior service in the Ohio Senate; she stands as the first woman elected to this leadership position according to the official Ohio House page.
