The City of Lorain wants to bring your attention to a critical development concerning the increased detection of influenza in untreated wastewater within our community.

The Black River Waste Water Treament Plant is involved in viral gene testing for COVID 19 and Influenza. We collect samples weekly and they are sent to State labs for analysis.

A recent monitoring has shown a rise in the presence of Influenza A in the wastewater samples, indicating a potential increase in community transmission. It is essential for everyone to be aware of this situation and take appropriate precautions to protect themselves and others.

Key points to note:

1. **Increased Risk: ** The detection of Influenza A in untreated wastewater suggests an elevated risk of community transmission. Everyone is urged to be vigilant and follow recommended health guidelines.

2. **Personal Hygiene: ** Emphasize the importance of practicing good personal hygiene, including frequent handwashing, using hand sanitizers, and maintaining proper respiratory etiquette.

3. **Symptom Awareness: ** Be mindful of flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, and body aches. If you or someone you know experiences these symptoms, seek medical advice promptly and consider getting tested for influenza.

4. **Community Responsibility: ** Everyone plays a crucial role in preventing the further spread of influenza. Follow public health guidelines, adhere to recommended safety measures, and support one another during this challenging time.

5. **Stay Informed: ** Stay informed about local health advisories and updates from health authorities. Timely information is essential for making informed decisions about personal and community safety.

This notice is not meant to cause alarm but rather to empower our community with the knowledge needed to respond effectively to the situation. By working together, we can minimize the impact of influenza on our community.
