State Representative Gayle Manning has announced that the Lorain County Land Reutilization Corporation has been granted over $800,000 in Brownfield Remediation Grants. This funding is designated for asbestos abatement and demolition of a former high school, paving the way for an affordable senior housing unit.
“These grants are critical for local governments to remediate abandoned and potentially hazardous sites that can then be turned into useful plots for the growth of their communities,” said Manning. “I’m pleased to see these funds being used to help Lorain County’s senior population with stable, affordable housing.”
The grant comes from the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program, which receives its funding through the General Assembly's operating budget. The Lorain County initiative is part of a larger $82.1 million distribution across Ohio aimed at cleaning up industrial, commercial, and institutional brownfield sites. These sites are often abandoned or underused due to contamination concerns. Once remediated, they hold potential for redevelopment that can revitalize neighborhoods and stimulate economic growth.
