Rep. Bob Latta, who has represented Ohio’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2007, posted several statements on social media regarding the ongoing government shutdown and National Manufacturing Day.
On October 3, 2025, Latta commented on the third day of the federal government shutdown, urging Senate Democrats to support a funding resolution. He wrote: "Today is day three of the government shutdown and Senate Democrats have the opportunity today to do the right thing and vote alongside their colleagues for a clean, bipartisan funding resolution. @HouseGOP already acted to keep the government open. Now it’s the Senate’s turn."
Later that day, Latta marked National Manufacturing Day by encouraging readers to view his full statement on its significance: "Happy #NationalManufacturingDay! Read my full statement on the importance of this day here: https://t.co/0UJppFakJK" (October 3, 2025).
In another post made in the afternoon, Latta reiterated his position on the budget impasse: ".@HouseGOP did their job and voted for a clean, short-term, and bipartisan funding bill to keep the federal government open for the American people. Democrats closed the government because they want to add $1.5 trillion in radical, partisan spending. It’s time for Democrats to" (October 3, 2025).
Latta has served as Ohio’s 5th District representative since succeeding Paul Gillmor in 2007 and previously held positions in both chambers of Ohio's state legislature as well as on Wood County's Board of Commissioners. Born in Bluffton in 1956 and now residing in Bowling Green at age 67, he holds degrees from Bowling Green State University (BA) and University of Toledo (JD).
