State Representative Gayle Manning (R- North Ridgeville) has announced that the Department of Higher Education will receive over $39 million for the Choose Ohio First Scholarship program. The program aims to recruit Ohio residents by offering scholarship opportunities in STEM fields to attend Ohio universities and colleges that provide work-based learning opportunities.

Manning emphasized the significance of this program, stating, "This is Ohio money going to Ohio students." She believes that Choose Ohio First Scholarship program will not only provide a pathway for Ohio students to earn a degree but also prevent them from drowning in debt as they strive to build their futures.

The program's primary goal is to enhance regional education across the state while also contributing to the economic growth of each region. Institutions participating in the Choose Ohio First Scholarship program are required to match the funding received from the state and allocate 100% of the funding for scholarships to students.

One such institution that offers a variety of STEM degrees and university partnerships is Lorain County Community College, located in the local area.

The Ohio Controlling Board, responsible for financial legislative oversight of capital and operating expenditures by state agencies, has scheduled its next meeting for November 27.
