Parents watching their children play soccer for the Avon Lake Soccer Organization should be on the lookout for something else this fall...the law. 

Avon Lake Soccer Organization warned parents the penalties for not wearing masks at games could be stiff. 

“Fines and jail time could occur under the new orders,” the group said in an email.

The soccer league asked parents to set aside their “beliefs” to maintain compliance and to wear masks at all times.  

“Regardless of your political or personal beliefs on COVID-19 there isn’t a choice in the matter when it comes to the safety of the soccer season,” the email reads. 

The move is not unprecedented. A mother in Logan, Ohio was recently tased and arrested for not wearing a mask during her son's sparsely attended football game. She was later reported to suffer from asthma which allows her to exempted from the mask mandate. Video of the arrest shows a responding officer approaching the scene not wearing a mask. 

The hardhanded move comes as mask mandates are being challenged across the country.  

Groups in Ohio have recently stepped up efforts to bring the issue to the forefront. 

Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican, is facing an impeachment effort by GOP legislators and the possibility of criminal charges over the continued lockdown.

DeWine has been called the "most egregious" of lockdown governors.
