CITY OF ELYRIA: Elyria Office of the Mayor & Safety Service Director Release Statement Following IAFF Local #474 Vote of No Confidence

Announcement2

City of Elyria issued the following announcement on Dec. 17.

On Wednesday, December 16, the Office of the Mayor & Safety Service Director received an official letter detailing the December 3, 2020 Elyria Firefighter IAFF Local #474 vote of no confidence in Fire Chief Carl Mack.

Union grievances, as well as general personnel matters are reviewed with the utmost seriousness, diligence, and timeliness needed to ensure that all issues are understood, but appropriate solutions can be determined with necessary parties involved.

Safety Service Director Derek Feuerstein is in the midst of evaluating existing claims, and as he shifts to his role in human resources on January 1, 2021, he will be focused on extensively reviewing the additional claims raised through the vote of no confidence with the City’s labor counsel.

Although we are disappointed it came to this point, the administration looks forward to working towards solutions that support our mutual goal: safely supporting and serving Elyrians.
