Lorain County Community College issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.
A new grant-funded program – Success Corps Scholars Program – designed to help eligible youth get trained for a job that leads to a career and helps them find a job is now accepting applications.
The Success Corps Scholars program at Lorain County Community College is for low-income, 16-24-year-olds in Lorain County who are not currently enrolled at the college.
The LCCC Success Corps Scholars program – funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration – will provide education and career training in manufacturing, healthcare or information technology. The training will be coupled with personal and employment counseling to those low-income students who face barriers to career development.
Some of the programs students may enroll in through the Success Corps Scholars program include emergency medical technician, medical coding, medical assisting, electronics fabrication, entry-level machining technician, computer diagnostics, computer networking, digital forensics and Google IT support professional. Most of these programs are 16-weeks long.
“Building on LCCC’s nationally recognized success and support services, the program will result in industry-recognized credentials and technical certificates that are connected to high demand jobs in manufacturing, healthcare, and information technology. This training will be enhanced by post-training counseling to ensure success for the students,” said Marisa Vernon White, LCCC’s vice president of Enrollment Management and Student Success.
Students who are accepted into this program will be eligible for:
• Career technical training
• Dedicated personal and career counselor
• Dedicated employment counselor
• Free tuition for those who qualify
• A laptop and Wi-Fi, if needed
• Transportation assistance
• Access to resources and services to assist in the transition into the workforce
