City of Sheffield Lake issued the following announcement on April 13.
Beginning Friday, May 6, Republic Services will pick up trash, recyclables and bulk items from Sheffield Lake residences every Friday.
Republic Services acknowledged that customers would benefit from weekly, as opposed to monthly, pick up of bulk items. They request residents limit bulk items to four each week.
In addition, leaves and yard debris will be picked up year round.
Residents are asked to place these items in brown paper bags, a trash can marked “yard waste” or clear, not colored, bags. Sticks and small branches cut to four foot lengths and bundled will also be collected year round.
Recyclable items include flattened cardboard, paper, glass, metal cans and plastic bottles and jugs. Items should be empty, clean and dry. According to Republic Service, one item that has not been rinsed out and
cleaned can contaminate not just your bin, but an entire load of otherwise recyclable items.
Items like plastic bags, polystyrene foam, food waste, diapers, tissue, paper towels and napkins, ropes,
chains, hoses, shredded paper, clothes, shoes, hardcover books and yard waste should NOT be placed in
the recycle bin.
Certain holidays falling ahead of the regular Friday pick up day mean the pick up day will move to
Saturday. Holidays that could impact include: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor
Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Residents will continue to pay $21.27 (the current fee) for these services through April 30, 2023.
