The Ohio House of Representatives has passed Keith’s Law, a legislative measure aimed at improving the ability of first responders to assist individuals with special needs during emergencies. State Representative Gayle Manning from North Ridgeville announced the passage on Wednesday.

House Bill 144 proposes the creation of a voluntary statewide database where individuals with special needs can share crucial information ahead of any crisis. This data will be integrated into each county's 9-1-1 system and provided to first responders when dispatched, allowing them to offer more informed and potentially life-saving assistance.

“This legislation equips our first responders when responding to emergency situations and ensures the best care for vulnerable Ohioans,” said Manning.

The management of this database will be handled by Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

Keith’s Law is now pending review by the Ohio Senate.
