State Rep. Gayle Manning | The Ohio House of Representatives
State Representative Gayle Manning has announced the passage of House Bill 131 by the Ohio House of Representatives. The bill, which is bipartisan, seeks to prohibit law enforcement agencies from imposing quotas for arrests and citations.
The goal of this measure is to prioritize the quality of police work over the quantity of tickets issued. It aims to foster positive relationships between community members and law enforcement officers. Currently, it is legal for officers to be required to issue a certain number of tickets each day.
"This bipartisan legislation will directly strengthen the trust and confidence between Ohioans and those who serve to protect them,” said Manning. “Imposing quotas hinders quality police work and the development of positive relationships between community members and their law enforcement officers.”
The bill has garnered support from both the law enforcement community and civil justice reform advocates. It now awaits consideration in the Ohio Senate.
